The Dawn Chorus - She's Like An Angel (Single) - ReviewsPlanet SoundFrom the year's most under-rated album, we can't recommend highly enough trying these passionate country-rockers - this is a warm, communal campfire melody seriously worthy of Neil Young. 9/10 Whisperin' & Hollerin"She's Like An Angel" is the second single taken from the really rather splendid "The Big Adventure" album. The lead track is a joyous, brass-rich indie-pop number, just right for the end of summer. What we call in the North, "a belter". If this is not a hit given the exposure it deserves, I'll be a monkey's uncle. It is backed by 2 solid B-sides, "Michael" - an acoustic, folk-tinged song, and "First Name Terms", a more traditionally "indie" workout. Both a decent songs, but lack the distinctive flavour of the lead track. Still, the point of singles is surely to showcase a band’s best songs, so job done… 8/10 The MagThe latest single from The Dawn Chorus brings a bouncing-bomb of pleasurable indie with a county spin. In fact, this is a great song choice, following up on 'The Hope Will Kill Us' as the second single from their debut album, The Big Adventure. It demonstrates another side to their sound and sticks in quality instrumentation with those classy vocals. The single is backed with fan-favourite 'Michael' and 'First Name Terms', which is a crispy single-worthy song in its own right. With their latest album, The Dawn Chorus have suddenly turned into a genuinely impressive prospect that could easily supply something new to the British band-scene, which seriously needs a shot in the arm right now. Every time I listen to a song from The Dawn Chorus, I'm surprised at just how brilliant they are. 8/10 |
